April 15th, 2010

Come and Hear Erin Costelo with Blue Engine!

When:  Saturday, April 17th, 8:00 PM

Where: The Dunn Theatre at the Dalhousie Arts Centre

Halifax’s Erin Costelo (www.erincostelo.com) will be performing with the Blue Engine String Quartet in the Sir James Dunn Theatre on Saturday, April 17 at 8:00 p.m. in an evening of Erin’s songs that she has arranged for herself and the Quartet.  Tickets are $15 advance and $20 at the door from The Good Food Emporium (2179 Gottingen Street) and Elsie’s Used Clothing (1530 Queen Street), online at www.ticketweb.ca, and at the door.

Erin Costelo blends rich, layered piano driven compositions with lyrics as often searing as they are sweet.  She has been nominated for two Music Nova Scotia awards and an ECMA award for Female Recording of the Year.  In her four short years back home in Nova Scotia, she has made a name for herself as a singer/songwriter, sharing the stage with artists like The Skydiggers, Jenn Grant, Rose Cousins, Amelia Curran, the Great Lake Swimmers and Duane Andrews.

The Blue Engine String Quartet (www.blueenginestringquartet.com) was formed in 1997 as the core ensemble of the Nova Scotia chamber music series, Blue Engine Music. The Quartet are all members of Symphony Nova Scotia:  Jennifer Jones, First Violin; Anne Simons, Second Violin; Margot Aldrich, Viola and Hilary Brown, Cello.  Blue Engine has its roots in classical repertoire performing many of the masterworks of the string quartet repertoire, including twentieth century landmarks by Ravel, Shostakovich, and Arvo Pärt. They have also become an integral part of our country’s most vibrant popular music scenes, and the Quartet are frequently featured as guest artists on recordings by the likes of Jill Barber, Meaghan Smith, Heavy Blinkers, and Jenn Grant.

This performance is supported by the Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage and CBC Radio.
